Why would I need an emergency repair? Emergency roofing repairs are a necessity if there are any potentially hazardous faults with your roof, which could endanger you or someone else. Roofs are strong but delicate and any problems at all should be heeded and given attention immediately. This is because if you turn a blind eye to a roofing repair problem you could end up having a problem that will quickly worsen and end up costing more to repair. As they say, a stitch in time saves nine. For example even a simple problem with a tile or slate on your roof can lead to a huge problem in the longer term. How do I reduce roof damage?

The UK is often subject to strong winds and so roof damage. This can lead to many problems for property owners. However, a few simple and easy checks to identify areas of weakness on your roof means you can prevent costly emergency roof repair.

• Keep a close eye out for any physical damage to your roof tiles or slates. Missing tiles and loose tiles are the usual culprits and early detection and repair can save costs in the longer term.
• The chimney area is also a point of weakness. Look out for cracks and holes and if you see some, get them repaired as soon as possible.
• Many of our emergency callouts are due to neglected and blocked gutters. Gutters should be cleaned and checked at least once every 12 months. Blocked gutters cause overflow and this will cause dampness issues.
• TV Aerials and radio aerials not in use are also a cause of damage - get rid of them.

Does snow and ice cause problems?

If you have a pitched roof you will probably know how hard it is to get rid of build ups of snow and ice, especially if it has become frozen. Snow that has set on a pitched roof should be removed as soon as is physically possible as a build up causes structural damage to the roof and need for a roof repair.

Pitched roofs are dangerous places on warm days in June, let alone during severe winter conditions. Do not clear the roof yourself for a myriad of safety reasons.
